Painter Sharon Lennox Woelfling of Hershey, Pennsylvania and Longboat Key, Florida enjoys painting from nature, often including people and wildlife in natural settings.  Her combination of bright colors and soft shadows reflects the world around her.

An interest in art from an early age eventually led to a BS in Art Education and work as an art teacher in suburban Virginia.  Following travels to Colorado and California, Woelfling settled in Hershey, Pennsylvania where she enjoyed a career as a systems analyst for several years.

Returning to her passion for art, she has focused on watercolor for more than 25 years, studying in professional workshops, teaching adult classes in both drawing and painting, exhibiting in shows and working on corporate as well as private commissions. Recently she has become interested in working with abstract acrylic paintings in addition to her representational watercolors.  “Abstract painting adds a dimension for me to freely experiment with color and shape while allowing the viewer to ponder the images, maybe developing an emotional relationship with a piece based on their personal vision or experience. My acrylics are based on nature, sometimes just the colors I enjoy around me, others include somewhat recognizable shapes as well. They represent a feeling rather than any specific object or place.”

Woelfling’s corporate commissions include a series of paintings for the historic Hotel Hershey, and a series of paintings for corporate Christmas cards for the Hershey Company. Her watercolor “White Tulips” was awarded Best of Show at the Longboat Key Center for the Arts.

More recently, Woelfling has focused on tropical subjects and colors of the beautiful Florida Gulf Coast where her work can frequently be seen in juried shows.
