The Gallery at La Cigale® in Mt. Gretna, PA is pleased to announce the third in a series of demonstrations to be held this summer.
On Saturday, July 28, 2012, from 2PM – 5PM, Ruthann Santry will demonstrate her fine art technique of pottery ‘throwing’.
In Ruthann’s words, “My work begins with a 25 lb. block of stoneware clay. I wedge the poundage that a piece would require and begin the process of formation by centering the clay on my wheel head. The clay is then manipulated by centrifugal force into the body of the piece and the walls of the vessel begin to emerge.
“Hand building is another technique that uses clay that has been rolled flat, using a large table with metal rollers that determine the thickness of the clay. This clay is then manipulated into shapes that result in forms using a variety of techniques and tools. I use a combination of chemicals to determine the glazes used on my pieces. I also use hand dyed reeds, ceramic beads and other natural products to enhance the uniqueness of each finished form.
“I will be demonstrating the first phase of this process at the wheel. Please join us to see how a block of clay begins its journey toward the final piece of an artistic process that is both unique and enduring.”
Please join us for this very special event on the front porch of The Gallery at La Cigale® , Mt. Gretna’s newest art gallery, located in the heart of Mt. Gretna on Rt. 117 next to Mt. Gretna Miniature Golf.
