Little Mermaid at the Capitol Theatre

The beloved fairy tale, “The Little Mermaid”, will be performed live on stage at 2 and 6:30 pm at the Capitol Theatre on Saturday, June 15th by Chambersburg Ballet Theatre (CBT). Tickets are available from the Capitol Theatre Box Office at  www.thecapitoltheatre.org  or by calling (717) 263-0202.

Featuring a cast of 50 dancers ranging in age from 4 years through pre-professional high school and college students, with professional guest artists, “The Little Mermaid” is a completely original ballet. Music, choreography and costumes have been created by CBT’s Artistic Director, Lavinia Reid; costumes and sets are painted with blacklight pigments, so that they glow in the dark, making possible visual special effects such as a magical underwater garden, a huge glowing full moon and even fireworks.

“The Little Mermaid” ballet recently made its debut to a standing ovation in Upstate New York, performed by the Ithaca Ballet. Reid’s original music was featured on four NPR stations, along with an interview by WSKG Binghamton’s Bill Snyder, who interviewed her about the making of the ballet.

Guest Artists include Oliver Swan-Jackson and Peter Doll, both veterans of the Suzanne Farrell Ballet Company, which has its home theatre at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C, as well as 3 pre-professional young men, brothers Colibri and Anatto McMillan, and Avery Higgins-Lopez, all courtesy of the Ithaca Ballet.  Marina Addlesberger will perform the title role, Resident Guest Artist Brie Anne Asbury-Egolf will appear as the Temple Girl/Sea Witch, and two Guest Alumni dancers, Victoria Marthouse and Julia Barra will be featured as the Sea Witch and Mermaid Sister, respectively.
