Lancaster First Friday Sampler for May 4, 2012

LancasterARTS announced today a sampling of the arts offerings for First Friday, May 4, 2012.  First Friday guides are available at all participating arts locations. Most First Friday venues are open 5 to 9 pm.

Soul of the Horse: Showcasing Christiane David’s paintings of horses that capture their strength, beauty and intense emotion through her use of color and impressionistic style.

The Secret Life of Eggs: A new, whimsical look at eggs as if they occupy their own world by Kathleen Stoltzfus.

David the Goldsmith,* 45 N. Market St.
Photographing God’s Canvas: Featuring nature photography by Melanie Hummer with an emphasis on scenes from the Chesapeake Bay and Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge. Acoustic classic and contemporary rock and pop music by Lancaster trio Kim Ludewig, Chip Trautman and John Varner, 6-8 pm.

In Search of Lost Time: A photography installation by Joshua White with works that use historical photo processes and sculptural techniques to explore memories and the struggle to prevent memories from fading. Meet the artist. 6-9 pm.

LEGO Building Party VI: Build with LEGO Architecture Series models, including the recently released Sydney Opera House, or free-style with over 10,000 bricks and pieces.  See the LEGO electric train. 5-8:30 pm

j. a. sharp Custom Jeweler, 322 N. Queen St., Cityscape: Escape to some of the country’s most exciting cities with Michael Miville’s photo collection. Meet the artist. 5-8 pm

Time For Tea: Featuring watercolor and ink pieces by Aaron Beitzel.  Each one tells a story through cartoon-like strong character poses and exaggeration. Meet the artist. 5:30-8 pm

All Over the Place: Offers artwork ranging from realistic to abstract by two artists with very diverse backgrounds, award-winning Susan Stephan Foster of Pittsburgh and Theo Robinson of Lancaster. Meet the artists. 5- 8 pm
Author Extravaganza: Featuring fiction and poetry from the Elizabethtown Writers Group. 5-8pm

The Painted Desert Gallery, 227 N. Duke St.
A Delicate Balance: Photographs from Death Valley by David Nutter and mixed media collages by Carol Emerson.

Strawberry & Co., 11 W. King St.
Brilliant Watercolors by Bertie Brown: Explore the vivid watercolors of Bertie Brown with subjects ranging from glowing flowers to melodic trumpets. Open until 8pm.
