Lancaster—October 2 & 3, 2010— Several new events are adding a special twist to a beloved fall favorite as ArtWalk takes over downtown Lancaster on Saturday & Sunday, October 2 & 3.
Thousands of art patrons hit the streets with friends and family in search of new creativity and exciting new work by local and regional artists and craftsmen. This year, special events include hot bronze pouring at Keystone Arts & Cultural Center, pumpkin painting at Annex 24 Gallery, and giant mosaic creations at Water Street Ministries.
It’s all part of a fresh and vibrant art scene in Lancaster where several blocks of galleries and art associations merge together twice a year to host special events designed for the art lover. Thirty‐one downtown galleries participate in this year’s Fall Artwalk. Artwalk is under new leadership as a consortium of nonprofit arts organizations band together to breathe new life into the region’s beloved fall event.
Gallery special events include three meet‐and‐greets with the artists, painting and drawing demonstrations, a jewelry workshop, and more. Kids of all ages can dip candles, paint pumpkins, decorate cookies and witness art in motion. A special live chainsaw woodcarving demonstration will also take place. Some events are one‐day only. Visit www.lancasterartwalk.org for details.
In addition, 16 galleries are featuring special one of a kind exhibitions, including fantasy landscapes by Ray Wallace, special fiber art by Sue Reno, collages by Alicia Byler, wood cuts by George Shaw, oils by Brad Stroman, furniture by John Sterling and pottery by Jake Johnson.
Art mediums featured include paper, bronze and wood sculptures; watercolor, oil and pastel paintings, silver and gold jewelry; 2‐D and 3‐D works in mixed media, woodcuts, pottery, decorative and wearable fibers, and mosaics. One special exhibition at the Demuth Museum explores the art connection between Charles Demuth and Georgia O’Keeffe.
