Jazz in the Sky Series is proud to present vocalist Delores King Williams & her husband, trumpeter Tom Williams with the Fred Hughes Trio to kick-off Black History Month, Friday, February 3 at 7:30 PM at The Ware Center.
Delores King Williams is a native of Baltimore and is comfortable with stage and concert settings. A winner of the Billie Holiday Vocal Competition and Downbeat Jazz Magazine award, she has performed at the White House and Carnegie Hall as well as toured in India and Australia. Delores was a former soloist for the US Army Band and currently performs with “Capitol Steps”, a musically political satire comedy troupe out of Washington.
Tom Williams began studying trumpet and drums as a child and joined the renowned Duke Ellington Orchestra after studying at Towson State University. He served 8 years in the US Army and was a featured soloist with the “Jazz Ambassadors” and “Army Blues” jazz ensembles. In 1991 Tom took 2nd place in the Louis Armstrong International Jazz competition and has played with stars including Patti Labelle, Liberace, Stevie Wonder, and Rosemary Clooney.
Fred Hughes has composed an original jazz piece which will be debuted at this performance.
