Hershey Area Playhouse proudly announces its upcoming summer musical, a beloved family favorite, Fiddler on the Roof.
The show will be directed by Playhouse veterans Cory Wilkerson and Tracey Ford with Cheryl Crider as vocal music director, Keith Wiley as orchestra director and Kristen Michaelson as choreographer. The musical tells the tale of a poor dairyman, Tevye, who is caught between the turmoil of raising five daughters in changing times and the hardship of a world turned upside down by anti-Semitism. Following Jewish traditions in the early twentieth century, Tevye searches for suitable husbands for his daughters. Refusing an arrangement from the matchmaker, the daughters wish to marry for love, instead of tradition. The beautiful score by Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick, features much loved songs including “Sunrise, Sunset,” “If I Were a Rich Man” and “Matchmaker.”
The adult auditions will be held at the Playhouse on Friday, May 11, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, May 12, 2012 from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Special auditions for children twelve and under will be held Saturday, May 12, 2012 from 9 a.m. until noon. Actors who cannot attend the Friday or Saturday auditions may schedule an appointment for Sunday May 6 by calling producer Lewis Silverman at 717-919-8918. There will be a special audition for the featured dancers who will perform the bottle number as the chorus of young men in the tavern held Monday May 13 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Those interested in auditioning must prepare at least 32 measures of a song and bring sheet music or an instrumental CD. Auditioners will be asked to learn some simple dance movements and read from the script. Young children will play improvisational games to show off their talents, and may sing a simple song of their choice. Audition forms are available on the Playhouse website.
The performances will be July 19 -21, 2012 at 7:30 p.m., July 22, 2012 at 2:00 p.m., July 26 -28, 2012 at 7:30 p.m. and July 29, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. Tickets are $23 for adults and $20 for children 12 and under and are available at www.HersheyAreaPlayhouse.com.
