Dana Bellis American Illustrator Painter

A native of Millersburg, Pennsylvania, Dana started his portrait education in 1988 at the Art Association of Harrisburg. Studying figure drawing from live models, he worked under artists Tina Reiley-Philips and the late Leo Gilroy.

In 1993, he graduated from Pennsylvania School of Art & Design. He acquired a Bachelor of Arts from Lebanon Valley College in 1994, majoring in Communication Arts.

Working from photographs, Dana strives to capture the likeness and personalities of his subjects.  This involves a combination of the right poses, facial expressions, settings and color choices.  When Dana illustrates or paints, it is with awareness that he is creating a family heirloom to be treasured for generations.  His portraits capture the joy and vibrancy of life.  He prefers his subjects to appear natural and represented in their true surroundings.

Dana combines his artistic talents with his client’s wishes regarding composition, size and setting.  He also works from a variety of media including:  Graphite, Charcoal, Pastel, Watercolor, Acrylic and Oil.

Currently he is illustrating for PA Game News Magazine and has an upcoming solo show at WITF in Harrisburg starting April 26, 2011 and ending May 25, 2011.

“My goal as an artist is to go beyond the likeness in a way that moves the soul, tells a life story, and gives the subject a beating heart that will be cherished for many generations.” —Dana Bellis
