Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet presents No Place Like Home

Free performance features encores and previews

Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet’s Founding Artistic Director Marcia Dale Weary is pleased to present No Place Like Home on Saturday, May 18, at 3 & 5 p.m. Performances will be held at the CPYB Warehouse Studios in Carlisle and are free to the public. Donations of $5 per person will be accepted to benefit Project SHARE of Carlisle.

No Place Like Homeis CPYB’s annual way of giving back to the community for more than a half century of support. Among the works being performed is an excerpt from the upcoming premiere of the Company’s first ever work by modern-dance legend Paul Taylor: Company B. In this seminal piece of Americana, Taylor recalls the turbulent era as the country was drawn into the Second World War. The young soldiers and bobby soxers jitterbug and boogie-woogie to the unforgettable songs of the Andrews Sisters, frantically masking the fatal cost of vanquishing evil.

Audiences will be treated to Alan Hineline’s celebrated “Garland Waltz” from The Sleeping Beauty and re: Dvorak. The recent full-length classical production of The Sleeping Beauty brought capacity crowds to their feet as the curtain touched down at the end of performances. Czech composer Antonín Dvorák’s fiery and brilliant “Slavonic Dances” provides the setting for re: Dvorak.

Included in the program is the reprise of Pas de Quatre, restaged by Founding Artistic Director Marcia Dale Weary after choreography by Jules Perrot. Created in 1845 the short ballet brought together in one work four of the greatest ballerinas of its time – Marie Taglioni, Carlotta Grisi, Fanny Cetrito and Lucile Grahn. The work displays the particular artistry of each performer while humorously portraying the distinct personalities and eccentricities of each dancer.

CPYB Warehouse Studios is located at 5 North Orange Street in Carlisle. Seating is limited and guests are encouraged to RSVP by calling 717.245.1190 or e-mailing info@cpyb.org
