Mozart’s Double and Triple Piano Concertos To Be Presented by Young Suzuki Pianists and Chamber Orchestra at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Camp Hill, Saturday, February 11 at 12:00 PM.
The Double and Triple Piano Concertos of Mozart, parts of Carnival of the Animals, and other concertinos will be presented Saturday, February 11 at 12:00 PM in a concert featuring Suzuki piano students from the greater Harrisburg area. The young pianists, ages 3 to 18, will perform with a professional chamber orchestra at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Camp Hill.
The concert, titled “Mostly Mozart: Concerto Celebration,” was created to give young pianists from the Capital Area Piano Chapter (CAPC) of the Central Pennsylvania Suzuki Association the opportunity to play beautiful classical music with a chamber orchestra comprised of professional local symphony players in a formal concert setting. Young student pianists in the CAPC will present concertino arrangements of the Suzuki piano repertoire and other sonatinas and sonatas. The Double (K.365) and Triple (K. 242) Piano Concertos of Mozart will be performed by 20 advanced students. Ann Shurtz is music director and conductor of this “Mostly Mozart” concert. John Eaken, of The Eaken Piano Trio, will serve as concertmaster.
The unusual format of the concert gives the children and young adults the rare opportunity to perform with a fine professional orchestra in an ensemble setting designed to truly expand their musicianship. Pianists often perform alone or as an accompanist, but in this event everyone plays with a friend as a duo. This requires a higher level of musicianship, better listening and more exact preparation in order to play together. Each team of two children has rehearsed many hours together to synchronize their pieces perfectly with the orchestra.
“The Concerto Kids”, performers in the advanced Concertos, include: Joshua and John David Lane, Lana and Sydney Harper, Noelle and Ana Dominguez, Joseph and Nathan Engel, Gabrielle and Julia Coler, Miriam Dilts, Briana Heinly, Lexie Ometz, Emily Chung, Megan Miller, Riley Park, Ben Roberts, Paige Clancy, Jacob Miller, Alexander Jones, Elma Hoffman, Brenden Smith, Anna Traub, Monica Kavathekar, and Meghan Ferraro.
Thanks to our sponsors and parents, Admission is Free.
