Adams County Arts Council’s Brown Bag Lunch Series

Mary Furlong and Karen Bowling, members of the McSherrystown 250th Book Committee, will be featured at the Adams County Arts Council’s Brown Bag Lunch Series, 3rdThursdaynoon, on Thursday, July 18 at 12 p.m. at the Arts Education Center, 125 S. Washington St., Gettysburg.  There is no admission charge for this hour-long program.

Their program will describe the town’s newest heritage and legacy book, Fifty Years in McSherrystown: 1963-2013 which was compiled for the town’s 250th Anniversary celebration this year and created under the auspices of the McSherrystown Heritage Association and John Timon Reilly Historical Society.  The book, an entertaining read for anyone interested in small town life, is a collection of photos, stories, personal reflections, and news bits, with sections on families, sports, education, arts, service, business, and change. The book is intended to pass on an appreciation of small town heritage, both for newcomers and for younger generations, to  help preserve some of the town’s character, and to delineate elements of important community connective-ness.  Copies of the book will be on sale at the program and are also available through www.jtrs.com.

Ruthmary McIlhenny will present the next 3rdthursdaynoon program on August 15 about the 1960’s.
